Leonard sat in his office looking over the medical reports over the last few months. Everything seemed to be in order, everyone had their yearly check-ups. Well almost everyone but the man that was overdue didn't surprise in in the least. In all his years in the medical field, he had never met a person with a bigger aversion to doctors than the Captain. Kirk was in short -- a baby. When it came to such things. And while Leonard probably couldn't blame him, considering he himself hadn't always been fond of doctors he had grown up, clearly.

Shaking his head he groaned a little, Kirk would be dealt with medically later but for the time being he had others to attend to. He was just about put his signature on it all and mark all the check-ups as complete when he noticed a discrepancy. "Damn it." He hissed, of course, the youngest crew member needed his check up.

A small laugh escaped his lips as he recalled their first meeting. He had been speaking with Kirk when he asked the boy's age. Seventeen Sir, Leonard remembered that responds like it was yesterday. He was still a kid in his eyes, but he had grown and proven himself useful. There was even a level of respect for young Chekov.

Standing he spoke, pushed the button on the comm so that his voice boomed over the speakers in the bridge. "Hey kid, ain't you forgettin' something?" It was all the Southern doctor said before he left his office and headed into sickbay with his PADD in hand awaiting the youngest crew member. In his mind, he could see the boy running down the halls already rushing to get down here.

Something, happily, never changed.

Technically, he wasn't supposed to be there. At least not at this hour. But the navigator that was supposed to run this shift had called in sick and being the enthusiastic officer he was, Pavel volunteered to take over this time. He didn't really mind, the bridge was his favorite place on the ship. Aside from his room and engineering.

As he worked, he listened to the sounds around him. The sounds of other Starfleet officers doing their own things, but working together like a cog in a well oiled machine. Sometimes he was still surprised about how he, a teenage Russian Wizzkid, had become Chief Navigator aboard the USS Enterprise under the guidance of Captain James. T. Kirk. But then he remembered that these people looked at him like a valued member of their team, instead of what he actually was. A kid.

Well, they still saw him as a kid, and he couldn't really blame them for it. But at least they didn't threated him like one that much. Well, except for Uhura. And Captain Kirk. And Hikaru. And Doctor McCoy. But he wasn't bothered by it that much. They were family.

Talking about McCoy, Chekov was surprised when the Doctor's voice sounded over the comm. For a second Pavel thought the Georgia Doctor was talking about the Captain. But then he realized the Captain was not on the bridge, and that it was him the doctor was talking to.

”Вот дерьмо!. Panic flashed through his eyes as he jumped up from his station. ”Ensign, take ze station” he ordered the closest person before he ran towards the turbolift. ”Deck G!”. How could he have forgotten his medical check up with Doctor McCoy? The Doctor was going to have his hide for this!

He jolted out of the turbolift before the doors had even fully opened. ”Move, move”. It was a familiar sight, their resident Chief navigator running through the corridors like there was a group of angry Klingons on his heels. Out of breath, he reached sickbay, and all but fell through the doorway as the doors slid open as he tried to catch his breath against them.

”I am zorry, Doktor.” he managed to get out between his desperate attempt to catch his breath. ” I deed not forget, I zwear!”

In truth Leonard didn't know exactly where Chekov was he simply took a guess. Though he could have easily asked the computer where the young man was he didn't bother. If he wasn't on the bridge then someone would inform him. But since no one did so on his short walk from his office to the bridge he just quietly waited.

The southern doctor kept the kid comments to a minimum now. But every now and again they slipped out. At just seventeen he was the youngest crew member aboard ship. Not counting Kyler and Joey of course, but they were actually kids -- even if she would argue that she was not a girl anymore. He rolled his eyes at that, honestly, he was surrounded by it.

It didn't take long for the sound of hurried feet to fill the hallway. Holding back a chuckle he waited standing just inside the doorway, quietly leaning against one of the beds. As Chekov came in Leonard glanced at the chronometer and nodded approvingly. "That's a new record." He said before turning his back on him knowing he'd follow as soon as he caught his breath. The doctor in him hated it when Chekov ran here because it threw off readings. But he had learned his resting heartrate by now that he was able to take that reading and simply input his resting into the log. But other things were somewhat askew as well, still he could adjust. However, to be on the safe side he always did a second reading in the end -- just to be sure everything was on level with where it should be with in the charts. Better safe than sorry.

Slowly Leonard made his way an empty biobed, "Okay maybe I forgot a little, you and Kirk are the last ones on my list for the month." He told him as he put his PADD on the table closet to the bed. He was quiet for a few seconds as he inputted a few things and brought up Chekov's file on the screen. With that done he picked up a tricorder. "Anything different I need to know about? Changes in mood, appetite and all that?" Leonard asked, getting down to business as he turned on the machine, finally looking at him.

There was actually a reason that Pavel had missed his medical check-up, and it wasn't that he had been busy with other things. Well, partially. He had been busy on purpose so that he could evade the mandatory trips to Sickbay. It wasn't Doctor McCoy, or any of the nurses who worked there, He liked all of them. Especially Leonard. It was just the fact that he had spend most his childhood sick and around doctors, and he had grown tired of them.

But then again, Doctor McCoy was different from the doctors he used to see. They always made him feel like a baby, while the southern man didn't downplay him. There was the occasional kid comment, but Pavel didn't mind.

As he did his best to catch his breath, he reminded himself to go to the gym more often. Sitting behind that console on the bridge really made his body lazy. What if they would get into another life or death situation that would have him run around the ship like a lunatic and he would get tired after just two decks? They would be disappointed in him. But at least he had set a new record, according to the Doctor.

”Deed I beat” a gasp for breath. ”Keptin Kirk's time?”

Slowly, Chekov followed McCoy to the biobed and waited for the good doctor to get his equipment ready and listened to him as he spoke. ”Ze Keptin is a buzy man, Doktor. I am sure he will Kome”. But even as he spoke the words with his usual optimism and enthusiasm, he knew it wasn't true. If Chekov was a pro at dodging medical check-ups, then Captain Kirk was the universe's champion.

As McCoy got his tricorder out, Pavel jumped in the empty biobed and allowed the Doctor to do his thing. ”Nyet, Dokter. Zhere have been no changes. A beet tired, but I have been fieling in for zome seek colleagues.” It did cause some headaches and change in sleeping patterns and a loss of apitite, but things like that were normal. ”I feel good”

As far as Leonard was concerned there was no reason for anyone to miss their check ups. But then he was a doctor and clearly his opinion on the matter didn't matter. And while he might admit that his bedside manner occasionally left something to be desired he wasn't a complete asshole. He had his moment where the world be damned, as everyone did. However, his southern charm often took that to a much darker side.

The use of kid was affectionate in all the right ways. But it was becoming rarer now. Though Chekov was really only but seventeen he had seen the boy mature in the last few months. And for that, he had become a man.

Chekov could take the time he needed to catch his breath. It'd make things easier for his readings, but that didn't stop the doctor from wanting to get right into it. "A snail could beat his time." Leonard replied matter of factly. "I have to drag his ass in here or do the check up on the bridge." Chekov had been present for a few of those examinations. They were brief and hardly accurate but with Kirk, he accepted what he could get.

Once the pair were alone, he was quick to get to business. Getting everything in order and right at his fingertips. It wasn't as if he needed much in the way of supplies for Chekov but the ever vigilant doctor was prepared, mostly for him, however, that meant just the tricorder and PADD. Once upon a time yes, he would have needed more. But he hadn't known Chekov as a kid, so for him, it was simply routine.

Leonard laughed at that, "Yeah he'll come alright. When hell freezes over and heaven is on fire." He said with a snort, that would never happen, not with Kirk -- him coming willingly? Not in Leonard's lifetime.

As soon as Chekov was on the biobed Leonard got to work, he moved the device in front of the ensign without a word as he quietly made mental notes in his head while he watched the screen.

"Seek?" He questioned eying Chekov for a moment before it clicked, "Sick, right there's one here not far from you. Food poisoning, if you want to call it that. More like the idiot ate something he was allergic too." He said more than loud for that patient to hear him. But then his focus returned to Checkov, "Just don't work too hard. I can offer something to help if you're feeling a bit tired. I hate to see you work yourself so much. But Kirk's gonna need ya for a few more days." Leonard told him, letting a little of his true southern accent leak into his voice.

As Pavel watched McCoy work and mumble around, he was reminded of the various times he had visited hospitals and medical outposts. Even as a kid, he had been able to name all the machines surrounding him. And as he looked now, he realized not much had changed. Not even the Doctors and their grumbling about terrible patients.

”Deet I at least beet ze znail?” he asked with an innocent smile on his face. ”I am zure ze Keptin does not mean eet, he is a wery buzy man”. Or at least pretended to be busy at some times, much to the visible annoyance of the Doctor. Pavel often had to contain himself from laughing when Leonard had to come to the bridge to preform the medical check-up on their captain. The banter between the two was priceless to listen too, and he would often trade smirks and smiles with Hikaru.

As he sat on the biobed, with McCoy working him over with the tricorder, he prayed to anyone listening that nothing would come up. Even though he was feeling a bit down because of the lack of sleep, he didn't really feel that bad. But he knew that never really meant anything with him, and the symptoms could always be a coincidence. And with one Navigator already out of the running, he couldn't afford getting sick as well.

”Zhat is what I zaid. Seek”. Sometimes Pavel was bothered by the fact he could barely pronounce certain English words. The others seemed to understand and if they were bothered by it they did not show it. They just let him talk, did their best to understand what he meant and never made any jokes about it. Except for that idiot who decided his authorization code 9-5-Victor-Victor-2.

”I cannot make zhat promize, Dokter. I do not know what trouble ze Keptin will get us into ze next few days.” It was hard being a part of the crew of Captain James T. Kirk. Trouble magnet of the universe.

Leonard was lost in his thought making sure everything looked normal for the young crewman. He'd learned well what was acceptable and what wasn't. So really it only took a glance but he couldn't help the need to be more thorough. It's was just how he was. Nevermind the fact that most would argue that his bedside manner left much to be desired -- and he would agree to that but right now wasn't one of those times.

Raising a brow he gave the young man a look, but decided to just nod, "Yes you beat the snail." Kirk, however, there wasn't a chance in hell he could beat the snail to sickbay. He'd be running the opposite damned direction!

With the young man now seated Leonard could focus on his task at hand. With Pavel's done he could check everything off and be done with the month. Kirk, he'd torment later but those that didn't act like overgrown children would be covered.

Silently he typed a few things in on his PADD as Pavel spoke again, "I understand you most of the time, now, I was just distracted." Leonard told him. It was the truth, he was getting better. Sure there were times when he had to really think about the words but right now he was just focused on his job.

"That's for damned sure." He groaned, "Trouble follows that man around like the tail on a dog." Leonard retorted. The good doctor would do the best to get the other navigator out of sickbay as soon as possible but he also couldn't make any promises. With the nature of the man's allergy Leonard wanted to make certain he was cleared completely before turning back to work.

A soft beep told the Southern doctor that the tricorder had finished it's reading, he lowered his gaze eyeing the screen, nodding his head slightly in approval. "As healthy as a horse." As always! That was one more thing he could give Pavel credit for, he took care of himself. Though being a teenager probably still helped him but still, not all teenagers took such good care of themselves.
